Old Saigon

I recently stumbled across a web page with a heap of photos of the Old Saigon.  I can only imagine what it was like.  This batch has captured a real moment in time.
Looks to me like Nguyen Hue looking toward the Peoples Committee Building.

Ben Thanh Market

This could be any of the old street markets in the city.

That's quite a machine!

Looking toward what is now Tax Centre on Le Loi and Nguyen Hue.

Same again.

Tan Son Nhut Airport

Hai Ba Trung.  I will try to hunt down some more and put them up.  Thanks to vnafmann.com for the photos.

  1. Vietnam a very different place and time, love to see how our city was at different times in the past. I have seen several photos of Ben Thanh market when it was first opened in its current location.

  3. Thank you. Very beautiful pictures.

If you go to Skyscrapercity, you'll find the oldest photographs ever taken (around 1880) in Vietnam in this forum section:
"Hình ảnh Sài Gòn xưa - Old photos of Saigon":
    http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2104

There are also 3-4 precious video footage of Saigon in 1945 (immediately after World-war-2), and in 1954. For example:

There are sections for Hà Nội xưa - Old Hanoi
as well as Huế xưa - Old Hue.

  6. Awesome pictures, what I find interesting is that although the pictures are old, they actually look similar to "modern" Vietnam in a way. Like how the people are dressed, the bikes, minus the cars.
